I’m Still Alive

15 07 2010

I’m sorry that it has been so long since my last post, but my life has been a whirlwind! Well, I officially started my job on July 1, and I am loving every minute of it so far. I would have posted sooner, but I had a loaner laptop at the office, and it was horribly slow, and I honestly didn’t really have time to sit down and write.

My new laptop came in the other day, so I am finally able to get caught up on my internet time. Since I’ve been here, it has been pretty laid back. I have had time to get adjusted to the campus and the building. I’ve gotten my office almost setup the way that I like it, but I realized I need more stuff to fill up my book shelves. I have a lot of desk/countertop space in my office so that I can spread out all of the books I am using to write lectures at one time and just look at what I need when I need it without having to open and close each book. Best of all….I have a thermostat that I can actually control! This may sound stupid, but in every office that I have worked in, either the thermostat did not control anything, or I shared the office with others so I had to keep it warmer than I like (I like it nice and cold!).

The courses that I am teaching this Fall are team taught courses, so I have meeting tomorrow with the coordinators to discuss what part of the courses I will be teaching. It will be nice to be able to actually start putting stuff together rather than just reading material that I think I might be covering.

The research aspect of the position is still coming together. Since the department is new and the building is new, there are still some kinks to be worked out before things can get going full swing. I still need some time to focus my research anyway, so this works out well for me.

I still have a lot to learn about being a professor, but I am trying and I hope that I will turn out to be a pretty good one. I’ll be sure to post on a more regular basis now. I hope that you all are enjoying your summer!
